Portugal has managed to improve its competitiveness ranking after a sequence of six years of reporting successive drops. While crime and theft and poor public health were of no concern to business people and investors in Portugal, the difficulty in obtaining finance, restrictive labour laws and bureaucracy were the main reasons the country did not fare better in the rankings.
